Hermès, the well-known fashion house, recently stated that will collaborate with MycoWorks, a California-based start-up biotechnology company, to create their first "vegan" bag. The Victoria bag, a travel model of the French house, will in fact be made of a vegetable-based leather called Sylvania, created starting from a particular treatment of the mycelia, the vegetative apparatus of mushrooms, made by an interweaving of filaments, exploiting Fine Mycelium technology developed by the Californian company. Hermès therefore stands as a watershed between fashion houses, demonstrating that with the use of "vegan" leathers it is possible to create products that are not only ethically and ecologically sustainable, but also with a strong aesthetic and formal content.
